New Braunfels Waterfront Homes on the Rivers and Lakes

Canyon Lake

Canyon Lake is a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reservoir on the Guadalupe River in Comal County, about 12 miles northwest of New Braunfels, with about 93 miles of shoreline in the Texas Hill Country. Homes around the lake include waterfront properties on the coves and peninsulas and water-view homes in the surrounding hills. The lake is used for boating, fishing, swimming and paddling, and the public parks on its shoreline are run by the Corps and by the Water-Oriented Recreation District of Comal County (WORD). Below Canyon Lake, the Guadalupe River continues toward New Braunfels.

Guadalupe River

The Guadalupe River flows out of Canyon Lake, runs through New Braunfels and is joined there by the Comal River. On the stretch between Canyon Lake and the city, crossed by FM 306 and River Road, Texas Parks and Wildlife stocks trout and sets special trout rules. Downstream, the river passes Gruene, a historic district on the National Register of Historic Places that is now inside the New Braunfels city limits. Off FM 306 near Gruene, River's Edge at Gruene is a new Guadalupe River community with riverfront lots, river access lots, estate lots and garden homes, a community waterfront park, and the choice of your own builder. Guadalupe River homes range from private riverfront lots to homes with shared or deeded river access, so confirm what each property includes.

Comal River

The Comal River rises at Comal Springs, which flow from the Edwards Aquifer, and runs about 2.5 miles through New Braunfels to its meeting with the Guadalupe River. The City of New Braunfels calls it the shortest navigable river in Texas. Much of its bank is city parkland, including Landa Park and Prince Solms Park, and the river is used for tubing and paddling. The Comal River system is habitat for several federally listed endangered species, protected under the Edwards Aquifer Habitat Conservation Plan. Homes along and near the Comal are in central New Braunfels, close to Landa Park and downtown.

Lake Dunlap, Lake McQueeney and Lake Placid are part of the Guadalupe Valley Lakes, a chain of GBRA hydroelectric lakes on the Guadalupe River between New Braunfels and Seguin. Much of their shoreline is lined with private lakefront homes, boat docks, piers and bulkheads. A new dock, or changes to one, on any of the three lakes requires a GBRA Dock Construction Permit, plus any other local, state or federal approvals.

Lake Dunlap

Lake Dunlap is on the Guadalupe River just east of New Braunfels off I-35. The lake is used for boating and for fishing for largemouth bass, crappie, catfish and sunfish.

Lake McQueeney

Lake McQueeney is on the Guadalupe River about five miles northwest of Seguin in Guadalupe County, with many lakehouses along its shoreline. The lake is used for boating and fishing.

Lake Placid

Lake Placid is on the Guadalupe River in Guadalupe County, about half a mile southwest of Seguin. Its shoreline has private lakefront homes with boat docks, piers and bulkheads, and the lake is used for boating and for fishing for largemouth bass, crappie, catfish and sunfish.
